25 years of Memories
On May 20-24, 2012 the European School of Genetic Medicine (ESGM) will run its 25th course in Medical Genetics Course and will celebrate 25 years of its history together with the Nobel Prize Laureate Mario Capecchi and with all the ESGM Alumni and Faculty.
Everything started in Sestri Levante in the Spring of 1988. Then the course in Medical Genetics, as well as all the others modeled after it, moved to Bertinoro and finally to Ronzano-Bologna.
During these years, more than 2.200 students have attended the Medical Genetics course, drawn from across Europe and from further afield, in particular from Mediterranean countries, but also from all other parts of the world . The webcasting of all ESGM courses has allowed groups of students in distant developing countries to follow lectures live and take part in the ensuing discussions.
This 25th course will give us the opportunity to celebrate the European School of Genetic Medicine with different activities.
First of all the Nobel Prize Mario Capecchi will be with us during the whole duration of the course.
At the end of the course, on May 24, Mario Capecchi will be honoured with a special award by the Mayor of Bologna and the entire city will be involved in a Public Awareness of Genetics event dedicated to him and to the memory of Victor A. McKusick, founder of the School.
Share your memories with us and send your pictures of the first excursions. This will be the occasion to live again those magical years...
